An Australian Dance Award for The Right

I’m thrilled to announce that on Tuesday 8 December 2020, Fine Lines won an Australian Dance Award for Outstanding Achievement in Community Dance for The Right.

Congratulations cast and crew on this terrific achievement. There are, of course many other, very worthy dance works/choreographers/dancers presented from 2018-19. Not gaining an award in no way diminishes the excellence of their work, commitment and talent.

Thank you to all the people who made the Awards possible. I'm aware of the many volunteer hours that went into producing a show of such high quality. Fine Lines was thrilled to be a finalist, in such fabulous company (Chunky Move, Yellow Wheel and Tasdance for Simulcast, Transit Dance, and Rita Pryce, Dance My Story) and gobsmacked to win the 2019 category.

The Awards are valuable because they will help Fine Lines spread the message that mature dancers have a lot to give and should have opportunities to shine.

It all started when…

Diaghilev, Stravinsky and Nijinsky stirred the pot at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées on 29 May 1913. Avant-garde in every respect from Stravinsky’s score to Nijinsky’s choreography, it caused a riot. The Rite is a serious work about sacrifice for the greater good.

The Right, explores this notion through the lens of contemporary politics. What does it take to follow your convictions and make change? Must you change who you are? Must you play the game? Are there any alternatives to the present mechanism, the games, strategies and tactics?

So…

Strap on your best pollie tie and review your how to vote cards, The Right will have you chomping at the bit for your preferred candidate. Or are you ready for the thrill of a leadership spill? In a field of bleeding hearts who would you put money on? Be audacious, finish that democracy sausage and join in our melee of modern politics and dance.

‘I’m so so glad I came to your show on Saturday night. It was EXCELLENT - nothing what I expected. So many good things:good, unexpected moves, therefore always a moment of surprise, well executed, good to see excellent but non-professional actors- gave it an edge, good to see some older participants.’
